McGarry said she moved to Cambridge 30 years ago, \"and has been deeply rooted in Cambridge since then.
She cited her long community engagement resume, worked as a nurse for 30 years and worked as a volunteer at Cambridge heritage and the Waterloo district Crime Prevention Commission.
McGarry, also a founding member of hospice in the Waterloo area, helped secure initial funding for the expansion and renovation of the Cambridge Memorial Hospital in 2010.
As the city\'s MPP, McGarry was able to get further funding for the hospital and sponsored the respiratory health act of a private member.
As minister of natural resources and forests, she finalized the details of the new protection Authority Act.
As Minister of Transport, McGarry is committed to continuing the expansion of Highway 401 through Cambridge and has developed a resolution for the reconstruction of the Franklin Avenue Bridge.
\"My plans for security, connectivity and prosperity Cambridge will be achieved by working together to address the challenges ahead of us while taking advantage of the great potential of our community.
McGarry also talked about the daunting challenges facing Cambridge, including the opioid crisis, the growth of the homeless and the disconnect between Town Hall and the community.
\"Based on my experience as your MPP, around the cabinet table, working on important local committees such as the Crime Prevention Committee, I know I have the skills and relationships to get things done at the Town Hall, \"she said.
In highlighting her plans, she highlighted her desire to repair relationships with the region, ensure that communities feel safe in the community, and address the lack of affordable housing in the city.
\"We need a town hall that actively listens to taxpayers and engages with civic groups, and that\'s how we start to address these issues, that\'s how we make sure Cambridge continues to be a great place to live, work and support the family, \"she said.
McGarry\'s plan involves four key priorities: in the area of leadership and accountability, the mayoral candidate wants to start a town hall meeting in each ward to launch the New Citizen Action Committee, and start public consultation early in the planning process.
In the area of public safety, McGarry wants residents to feel safe in the community as the city is working to address the problems of drug addiction and addiction.
\"The solution starts with moving the bridge out of the heart of the city center, working with police and social services to remove the tent city from our footprint, and use lessons learned from other cities to provide mental health and employment services to help solve long-term problems
