Popular Yosemite National Park lookout opens early in season

by:COSCO     2019-08-10
On Saturday, a road to spectacular views of California\'s Yosemite National Park opened to drivers, marking the earliest date in at least 20 years.
Glacier Point takes the driver to the lookout, 214 feet above the bottom of the valley, where visitors can see sights such as semi-dome rock, Yosemite Falls and Yosemite heights.
Every winter, the road is closed due to snow, and last year the park reported opening in April 14.
The road has been closed until very late in other yearsMay.
The opening of March 28 this year is the earliest record published on the park website dating back to 1995.
California has been suffering from drought for the fourth year in a row, and mountain snow accounts for only a fraction of the normal level.
Rangers say the park\'s Tioga Road is still closed.
