It was a memorable night.
This weekend, in the center of 250 Clark Street, a local dinner was held in a huge tent with wine, tablecloths and locally produced food.
Nine yards.
Sold out at $30 per person.
In the year since the former Powassan Primary School was opened centered on community activities, it has held more than 1,500 events, excluding the activities of the fitness center, or any municipal meetings
These activities include children\'s sports, arts and club activities, from various information sessions on how to marinate vegetables to how to put decals on quilts, how to protect your home and property, how to raise chickens in the backyard, keep a healthy hive.
Many of these events were held while the building was still in renovation mode as it was being transformed into a home of a new municipal office and community food bank
Education and literacy programs for adults.
Chief Executive Officer Maureen Lang said she received calls from other municipalities to see how Powassan works. Members reported that 250 karat grams of poster children were touted as a community center concept at the recent AMO conference in Ottawa.
When Powassan started working on the project, the government was promoting the hub and promised to fund the project, but in the end there was no actual funding.
Nevertheless, the Commission did not complain that the upper government had not stepped in and that it had seized the opportunity itself and was rewarded.
This success suggests that others may benefit from a similar leap of faith.
Of course, it is terrible for a municipality to decide to buy an empty school, church, factory or old AHSS building.
But at Powassan, we see that there can be a lot of re-leveraging a space and opening it up as a home base, a meeting place, a place where artisans hold workshops to community groups
The vision can be open-ended according to the needs and wishes of the community.
We think this concept is very effective in Powassan because many people support it with their energy and creativity.
Anyone who wants to create a center must support and encourage the center with new ideas and engagement.
By providing opportunities to connect, have fun and learn and grow, these centers can be a great attraction for new residents.
We thrive when we do our best. for-one and one-for-
All views.
